After several disappointing promises from the Army Corp of Engineers, They are NOT going to help repair the damage done to the back of the pavilion along the river bank caused during the floods of 1998, 2002, and 2004. The Texas Parks & Wildlife has committed funds to this repair. The repair will begin in September 2005. However insufficient funding could hamper the completion of the project. We now have permission to begin raising money that will be used exclusively for this project. Donations may be made at the park or by using your credit card and calling the Visitor Center @ 1-830-232-5999. The sooner we raise enough money the better. The Pavilion has been the heart and soul of Garner for generations. Many of us as well as our children have grown up dancing to the classics on the dance floor under the landmark Garner tree. We would like for this tradition to continue for future generations.
The Pavilion is at risk of continuing erosion undermining the foundation of the dance floor, walls and stairs. The intention of the Corp of Engineers was to build a retaining wall to keep erosion from continuing its course. That will be our intentions also; however the Parks & Wildlife will attempt to do this with 10 tons rock segments. The money available from TPWD will not be sufficient to complete the project. Therefore we hope to be able to raise enough to help fund this project. We cannot allow this historical Civilian Conservation Corp building to deteriorate. It is Garner. It means too much to all of us to allow that to happen. Please consider donating to help save the Pavilion. For more details call the Visitor Center @ the above number. Your donations are tax deductible, Friends of Garner will be glad to provide a receipt upon request.
