The Dance

The dance is a relaxed atmosphere where parents and children of all ages can dance to traditional Garner music.  The coin operated wurletzer juke box is located in the Pavilion.  And as soon as the Pavilion is open in the morning...campers start feeding money into it.  With it's loud speakers, the music can be heard up and down the Frio River.  Traditionally dancing starts at dusk.  But there is no set time for the dance to begin.  Come whenever you are ready. But it does end at 11pm.

The Frio

Floating the Frio, when the river is normal can be great fun. Tubes can be rented from the concessionaire in the park, or from merchants up and down the river. Kayak's and paddle boats can be rented from the concessionaire as well. Don't forget your sunscreen and something cold to drink,  remembering that public consumption or display of alcohol can result in a fine since it is illegal in any state park. There are plenty of deep pockets of water as well as shallow areas up and down our 2 miles of river.

Hiking

The Civilian Conservation Corps, who built the park, including in the park over 12 miles of hiking trails.  Many of these were lost due to underbrush throughout the years.  But the Friends of Garner lead by George and Diane Foshee have helped reclaim the trails.  Each year on the MLK weekend in January, volunteers maintain the trails. If you would be interested in volunteering, we would gladly accept your help.  /And in addition we can provide community service sheets for anyone who helps.  During the summer months our Interpretive Ranger and volunteers lead guided hikes over these trails.
